7 Best Open-World Games Rated Mature 17+ ESRB

Sharing is caring

The worlds in these open-world games are full of blood, gore, and dark story themes.

Open-world games have become so popular that they are almost a term for games in general. Many game makers today focus on making huge worlds that players can explore if they want to. These worlds are full of life and extra content for players to enjoy. RPGs are almost never straight anymore, and sandbox games aren’t the same without an open world.

There are open-world games for all ages that are good for children, but there are also games with a mature rating because the open world is full of mature material. These games have a lot of strong violence, buckets of blood, and other things that only mature players should watch.

The Witcher 3

The Witcher is the most popular series from CD Projekt Red. It is based on the same-named fantasy book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, which follows Geralt of Rivia as he kills monsters for money all over the world. This is the main idea behind a huge franchise with a lot of interesting lore, a deep story, and a group of colorful characters who are full of personality.

In the third game, Geralt tries to find his lost adopted daughter Ciri before the Wild Hunt does. Along the way, he runs into old friends like Yennefer, Triss, and Dandelion. In an RPG, like The Witcher, players can choose to put off the main storyline in favor of side tasks, exploring, or, in this case, a few games of gwent. It’s amazing how big this world is, and it would be a shame for people not to see as much as they can.

Even though it doesn’t have a lot of blood or violence, this open-world factory-building simulator got a mature grade. Even so, that doesn’t mean there’s no fighting in Satisfactory. It’s just one of its many parts. Players can also explore the world and build their factories from the ground up using the materials they find around the map.

The basic idea behind Satisfactory is easy to understand. The player takes on the part of an engineer who has been told to build factories on new worlds in order to settle them. At the beginning, players choose one of four starting places, each with its own terrain and resources. But, like most open-world games, players are free to check out the other places and see what they have to offer. As they improve their factory, they unlock vehicles and weapons that make it easier to explore because they can cover more area faster and fight off hostile natives.

Grand Theft Auto 5

Grand Theft Auto 5, the best-selling game by Rockstar, took the gaming world by storm and has stayed famous ever since. Based in the made-up town of San Andreas, players follow the story of the three main characters, Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, as they try to pull off successful heists despite the corrupt government’s increasing control and the rise of rival crooks in the underground world.

In between tasks, players can go anywhere in the world they want. They can look at San Andreas’s beautiful scenery, talk to NPCs, and do side tasks. Like most GTA games, players can steal cars, perform acts of domestic terrorism, and generally cause trouble on the streets of America. Also, through GTA Online, players can get their friends involved in their shenanigans with up to thirty other players and rise from being a poor street thug to a crime boss.

Death Stranding

After the much-anticipated Silent Hills was canceled and Kojima left Konami, he started his own business and worked with Norman Reedus, Troy Baker, Mads Mikkelson, and Guillermo Del Toro to make a game. It was called Death Stranding. Even though not all players and reviewers loved the game when it came out, Kojima did make an innovative game set in a unique world with great performances by its cast.

Death Stranding takes place in a world after the end of the world where Beached Things, or BTs for short, are everywhere. These undead creatures roam the land and can cause terrible things to happen, like an explosion as big as a nuclear bomb or rain that quickly ages everything it falls on. This has destroyed the land and made many places uninhabitable. The people who were still alive lived in colonies, and only a courier service called BRIDGES was brave enough to travel across the land to bring supplies.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077, another hit game by CD Projekt Red, also had a great open world for players to explore. It had futuristic bright landscapes, lots of colorful characters to meet, and fun side quests to do. Even though the game had technical problems when it first came out that ranged from funny to game-breaking, it has since gotten a lot of quality-of-life changes to make sure players can enjoy the interesting story and fun gameplay.

Happy Wheels game takes place in a made-up, future city called Night City. Players take control of V, whose past depends on which of the three options they choose. V is given a cybernetic chip that seems to have the personality and memories of the dead star Johnny Silverhand. Keanu Reeves does a great job of playing Silverhand. V is having trouble keeping control of their body, and they are in trouble with the big company Arasaka. Arasaka has made a dangerous artificial intelligence that copies the minds of netrunners before killing them.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon: Zero Dawn has proven to be one of the best new RPG series. It gives players a fantastic new world to explore and a story that mixes magic and science fiction into a nearly perfect whole. The game takes players to places that look like jungles and forests, where giant mecha-beasts live and fight. To beat them, players use a variety of weapons and stealth mechanics, and a skill tree lets them learn new skills and bonuses.

In Horizon: Zero Dawn, the main character is a young hunter named Aloy. She goes out into the open, post-apocalyptic world to find out about her past. In America in the 31st century, people now live in groups, each with its own level of technology. The once-peaceful machines get a disease called “Derangement,” which makes them hostile to any living thing they see. This makes it hard for Aloy to find out more about where she came from.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the first game. It tells the story of a cowboy named Arthur Morgan in the year 1899. He is one of the most important people in the Van Der Linde gang, which John Marston, the main character of the first game, is also a part of.

After the Wild West’s steady fall, the group of outlaws is determined to keep it alive and well. They also have to deal with the dangers of being an outlaw, such as rival gangs, government forces, and other enemies, who are all over the huge world of Red Dead 2. Because the group does things that are against the law, oil magnate Leviticus Cornwall is against them. He hires the Pinkerton Detective Agency to stop them.Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of Rockstar’s best games. You can play it in first-person, and it has a fun multiplayer mode where you can live the life of a criminal with a group of friends.
